We began establishing our blueberry field in 1995 with the planting of a half acre of plants and the installation of a drip irrigation system. We chose an early season varietal called "Spartan" and also a later mid season varietal called "Nelson" and planted 250 bushes of each. As the years passed, the crop came and went (mostly went) due to visits from a resident elk herd and what was left was enjoyed simply by family and friends. Fencing, after Ralph's retirement in 2009, kept the herd at bay and with an abundance of fruit we decided to open to the public that summer.
It has been a wonderfully rewarding experience to operate Hillside Blueberries each summer ever since. Ralph passed away in the summer of 2012 from cancer, but his love of this land lives on year after year and I know he delights in the many visitors that continue to return each summer to enjoy the fruits of his labors. Our daughters now grown and with families of their own, continue to help me keep the dream alive. Three precious grand daughters and one grandson wander the rows each summer now and are getting to experience their grandpa's vision and passion.
It is our hope that you too will love your time here!
