We began operating our blueberry field many years ago with the planting of a half acre of plants, 250 each of Spartan and Nelson varieties. The field was initially established as a summer project to enable our children to earn some money selling berries. They chose instead to work at the Gap, where it was air conditioned and they received a discount on clothing. As the years passed, the crop came and went (mostly went) due to visits from a resident elk herd that had discovered the "Jones Buffet". Fencing has kept the herd at bay, and allowed us to sell these delicious berries. In the process of making this fruit available on both a U-pick and picked basis, we have enjoyed the opportunity to meet many wonderful people. This combination of providing a delicious, healthful product that is free from pesticides and chemicals to a group of pleasant, appreciative people continues to make this project both fun and very rewarding.
